Medicometrics is a specialized branch of informatics and data science that applies mathematical, statistical, and quantitative methods to analyze medical literature, research outputs, and health data. It acts as a bridge between medicine and data analytics, serving as a framework to evaluate everything from individual clinical trials to broad healthcare systems.

Because it is a broad term, medicometrics functions across three distinct dimensions of healthcare data:
  • Scientometrics of Medicine: It measures the "output" of medical science. This includes tracking research publication trends, analyzing the collaboration networks of medical scientists, and evaluating citation impacts within specific medical fields.
  • Clinical and Operational Metrics: It tracks quantitative markers within patient care, such as hospital readmission rates, clinical treatment outcomes, and resource allocation efficiency.
  • Biomedical Sub-disciplines: It encompasses specific technical modeling fields, such as Pharmacometrics (using mathematical equations to model how drugs interact with human populations) and healthcare psychometrics.
